Pre-Alaska Adventures

Oh boy, life is busy! Where do I begin? Our vacation to Hawaii seems like a great place. It was wonderful. A dream come true! We first spent 5 nights in Napilli Bay, Maui. We had a great little studio for just the two of us, right on the bay. You could hear the waves all night long, which seems like it would be peaceful. . . however they were so loud that Jason and I couldn’t sleep! We had to get earplugs the very next day, but were then able to get a good nights rest. We snorkeled and swam (even saw a few sea turtles!) and ate amazing food. I think we both agree though, the best part was just sipping coffee on the lanai and watching the waves come in. We spent another 7 nights in Kihei with my family to celebrate my cousin Nick and Haley’s wedding. The wedding was beautiful – right on the beach! And we had fun exploring another area of the island. Haley’s brother lives in Maui and he took a few of us on a Bamboo hike. It was awesome because not a lot of people knew about it, so there weren’t a lot of tourists around. And even more exciting – I had to jump off a waterfall! Those of you who know me at all, know that this is not something I would normally do. . . I guess I didn’t realize while we were climbing up that eventually we would have to come back down. . . and I found myself forced to jump. While it was a fun experience, I won’t be doing it again anytime soon! I’ll attach some pictures to the blog to highlight our favorite things.

Since we’ve been back I took a short 24 hour trip to Las Vegas to celebrate my friend Katie’s bachelorette party. It was fun surprising her and showing up in her hotel room the last night of her trip. She had no idea I was going to be there with her mom and a few other ladies. It was totally worth it! I decided 24 hours is the best way to do Vegas, because I would have spent a lot more money if I could have stayed longer.

And since then Jason and I have been busy packing, packing, and packing some more! We were also able to meet some of the new teachers that we will be working with in Alaska because there was a teaching workshop here in Portland last week. We had everyone over to our house for dinner and got lots of tips about what to bring with us to Alaska. After meeting everyone we are even more excited about this new adventure. They all seem to be well trained professionals who are passionate about doing what’s best for kids – so we should fit right in!

Well, I tried to keep it short – but there has been a lot happening for the Pipkin’s lately! We make our big move next week, August 12th and will arrive in Metlakatla, Alaska on August 14th. So look forward to some amazing pictures coming this way!
